Over the last couple of months, we have been providing families in need with the Somo care pack. Initially, we started distributing our care packages to all of our entrepreneurs over the age of 55 to help them stay quarantined since they are considered high risk to Covid-19. We then extended it to families in Nairobi urban slums.
We have reached over 1,300 families with a month’s supply of food and hygiene products. These are vulnerable families in Nairobi urban slums like Kibera, Korogocho, Soweto, Mathare, Mukuru Kwa Njenga, Githurai, Kawangware and Kangemi.
The Somo Care Pack is relief support to cushion families from the harsh reality of COVID-19 while supporting small businesses. We source the products from local small businesses and some of our entrepreneurs. The package contains PurySeth honey, Bounty Peanut butter, Caya flour, Oshar hand sanitizer, rice, oil, sugar, vegetable, ugali flour, milk and bean or lentils.
We also provide optional items to add to the pack like masks, sanitary towels, reusable diapers and soap.
Our team have been doing the deliveries while taking all the necessary precaution.
Following the recent demolition in Korogocho, we are raising funds to reach as many families with the pack.
You can buy the pack personally or donate one to a family in need.
For just 2,500kes or $25, you can donate through our Mpesa Till (Buy Goods and Services) 960634 or PayPal at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Together we can create a future with more opportunities for all! Tuko Pamoja.
